Ice and Water over Zip

SeanRyan | Posted in General Questions on

Building in CZ 6 in an area that seeing a good amount of snow. Question regarding zip roof sheathing and water and ice peel and stick….

If you were installing zip sheathing, taping, rolling on the roof deck — would it be necessary to also install a peel and stick on top of that? Zip seems to make an underlayment product, so they of course recommend it.

I’m sure it’s more robust than not doing it – but is it necessary/smart?

If it's a code requirement for your area, then yes, it is necessary. Huber comments on it explicitly here: https://www.huberwood.com/uploads/documents/technical/Ice-and-Water-Membranes-on-ZIP-System-Sheathing-Tech-Tip-Roof-ZIP-System.pdf
