LP furnaces with no or very low electric requirements

dfvellone | Posted in Mechanicals on

My new house (zone 6, northern NY) will be heated primarily with a woodstove, and I plan on installing a backup heating option, but I’m off-grid and have limited power to devote to a heat source.
I’ve been using an Empire direct vent heater in my cabin as backup and it works well for this purpose. Williams makes a similar heater- these types are basically a simple plenum design with direct vent. Not the most efficient, but the house is and the heater doesn’t require electricty. These heaters will work in the house, but I’m wondering if in my search I’ve missed anything.
Thanks, Daniel

Did you find anything of interest? I was considering Rinnai wall heaters for my off grid cabin, but was trying to come up with something that would look better installed.

I did not. I searched extensively and, other than finding a couple alternate manufacturers, found that the plenum with direct vent is pretty much it for non-electric heaters which is my preference.
