Maximum ducting length – Panasonic Intelli-Balance 100

CDNReno | Posted in Mechanicals on

I have a bit of a unique mounting location for my ERV and I’m trying to determine the maximum length of the fresh air supply and outside exhaust with the 6″ insulated duct. As far as I can tell the manual doesn’t specify anything. https://na.panasonic.com/ca/sites/default/files/2023-01/IntelliBalance_FV-10VE2_Maintenance_Guide_en.pdf

I’m assuming it’s supposed to be short but wondering if I can get away with 20-25ft.

Consider that people are designing houses with dedicated exhausts and/or supplies with these ERVs 20-25 feet doesn't seem like much. That seems like a light pressure for a straight run of rigid duct. Flexible duct can greatly increase pressure as can bends in the ducting, particularly when done poorly.

Panasonic is HVI certified so there is data available on how it performs at different levels of pressure. More duct pressure = more power draw on the ECM fan motors. With too much pressure in the duct you might not be able to achieve the maximum available CFM of the fan (ERV).
