Once mold moisture is gone and growth is stopped, must the stain be removed?

GBA Editor | Posted in Webinar Follow-up Q&A on

When remodeling a story and half, mold was found in a section that was unheated but will now be in the heating envelope. Will this staining need to be bleached or just left as is?

Thank You,
Dan

Don't use bleach; just wash the affected area with soapy water and then let dry, completely. There is a good set of recommendations, based on the total area affected, here: http://www.buildingscience.com/documents/reports/rr-0210-mold-remediation-in-occupied-homes/view?topic=/resources/mold.
