Has anyone had success viewing Thorsten Chlupp's presentation?
I have tried several times and it always freezes before fully downloading

I have had no trouble opening the other presentations
It seems to be a ginourmous file ... hmmm

    John,
I just managed to download it. It's a big file. I suggest you click the link -- open it in a separate window -- and just let the thing load for half an hour while you ignore it and do something else.

John, I pulled it down, but it's 290 MB.

    Thanks Martin & Jesse,
I updated my adobe reader and the big ole file finally loaded.

The "Sunrise Home" is very interesting

Excuse my ignorance, but I am looking at Thorsten Chlupps presentation concerning windows, and I am wondering what Psi-install means (page 61 of his presentation, position of windows in wall)?
    Anyone know?
    Thanks.

    david,

psi install is the window's installed linear thermal bridging coefficient, which is entered into PHPP. basically the thermal transmittance along the perimeter of the window frame where it meets the wall. several factors affect psi install, including location of the window within the wall, overinsulating the frame, etc. PH windows with high psi install values can negatively affect the overall U-value of the window assembly quite significantly.

aecb has a presentation worth looking over (pdf) http://www.aecb.net/PDFs/conference08/AECB%2020window%2020seminar%20209-6-08%5B1%5D_PDF2.pdf

bronwyn barry also has a few presentations floating around the web worth checking out:
    http://www.slideshare.net/Bronwynb/sills-thresholds-passive-house-installation-details-that-boost-performance

her presentation from the 2010 PH conference in pdx, 'window porn for PH':
    http://www.passivehouse.us/passiveHouse/2010_Passive_House_Conference_Presentations,_November_5_files/2010%20Conference-Windows%20Roundtable-Bronwyn%20Barry.pdf

bronwyn seems to conclude (i wasn't able to stick around for the conference, so i'm basing this off her last few slides) that PH designers in the US should use glass with an SHGC of 0.6 - which is what i've been preaching for the last six months. combined with a compact and efficient plan, it's how PH designers can get away from the absurd amounts of insulation certain projects have required to meet the standard.

OK, thanks, your response and Bronwyns slides clear it up. Interesting to me as we are planning an retrofitting exterior insulation to our house in a year or two, and I have been considering the best way to do the windows.
