Recessed vs. Regressed Light Fixtures

cbut8995 | Posted in General Questions on

Not sure pros and cons of each but my wife and I are stuck between these 2. Seem like the only difference is the recessed vs regressed portion. Is there any real difference besides look?

The one they call "regressed" will reflect a lot of light off of the edges of the trim ring if it's not aimed directly down. This "bright ring" effect can be very annoying. I have that problem with two lights I just installed myself, since the gimbals don't have as much adjustment range as I was expecting. How much this happens depends on how far you angle the light. If you plan to use these to do something like light a portrait on a wall, you'll get a lot of reflection off the ring. If you are using these to aim down from a sloped ceiling, it might not be as much of an issue, depending on the pitch of the ceiling (steeper means more light reflected off the inside of that trim ring).
