Rim joist between 2 conditioned spaces, 2nd story floor

derekr | Posted in General Questions on

With a 2 story house does the 2nd floor rim joist need to be air sealed with rigid foam the same as a rim joist is done in a basement?
or can I just use rockwool batts for the 2nd floor rim joist like in my walls?

im also in zone 3 if it makes a difference, I rather just use rockwool since I have plenty of it and will be easier diy if it’s safe to do

i asked this question earlier but wanted to change the title to be more specific

The other problem with this area is it’s going to be hard to air seal with rigid foam because I have a lot of wiring from outlets and lights coming up to the top of this wall, if the 2nd story rim even needs to be air sealed I’m not sure
