Walls and floor for one piece shower?

MichaelBa | Posted in General Questions on

Hello,

I have a one piece shower I just bought and am going to install it myself. I have never done so and am looking for a guide or advice on the best practice to make sure:

1) No leaks or water damage
2) Shower is properly stabilized

My first question is what materiel I should be using for the framed in walls around the shower? Can it just be directly against my studs or should I put up some mold free plywood/material first?

My second is whether or not I should put something under the shower or just set it directly on the plywood? My shower instructions say that no foundation material is needed : http://aquaticbath.com/wp-content/uploads/LITID1900_Showers-and-Tub-Showers_4-26-1650.pdf

Thank you

You need to follow the manufacturer's instructions. For example, check the subfloor where you are installing the surround. If it is not level, use a leveling compound.

This also one of those situations where YouTube can be helpful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ktC3564qL0
