    Stanley,
    A variety of materials can be used for this purpose, ranging from cheap (6 mil plastic) to durable (EPDM roofing). Some people use rigid foam (XPS or EPS).

    Make sure to use some type of geo-textile fabric to prevent siltation of the PVC piping.
