What makes this product green?
- Energy-conserving equipment
The NEXT Hybrid is a unique gas-fired water heater that combines condensing, on-demand (or “tankless”) water heater technology and a small, 15- to 20-gallon "buffer" tank. On-demand water heaters typically activate every time the hot water tap is turned on. By using a small storage tank surrounded by R-16 insulation, the NEXT eliminates the “cold water sandwich” created by many tankless systems and the condensing technology and heat exchangers helps supply enough hot water for short cycle use without activating the burner, which does not fire to maintain the temperature in the tank unless hot water demand is sufficient. The water heater is also effective in providing hot water at very low flow rates, which is often a problem with tankless water heaters. The NEXT has a standby loss of 378 BtuBritish thermal unit, the amount of heat required to raise one pound of water (about a pint) one degree Fahrenheit in temperature—about the heat content of one wooden kitchen match. One Btu is equivalent to 0.293 watt-hours or 1,055 joules. /hr, a first-hour rating of 189 gallons of hot water, and a thermal efficiency of 90%.
