The only oil-fired, sealed-combustion, on-demand water heating systems in North America, Oil Miser Water Heater models OM-148 and OM-180 from Toyotomi have efficiency ratings of 88% and 87%, respectively. The OM-140 is designed for domestic hot water, while the OM-180 is designed for hydronic heating. Both models provide up to 148,000 BtuBritish thermal unit, the amount of heat required to raise one pound of water (about a pint) one degree Fahrenheit in temperature—about the heat content of one wooden kitchen match. One Btu is equivalent to 0.293 watt-hours or 1,055 joules. /hr—the OM-148 consuming fuel at a rate of 1.1 gal/hr, and the OM-180 at 1.05 gal/hr.
