2 in 1 hood for Intellibalance 100 install

gbcif | Posted in Green Products and Materials on

I’m installing the northern climate variant of the intellabalance 100 Panasonic in Southern VT.

The building has half in sheathing and 3 in of foam on the outside in addition to 3/4-in furring and 1/4 in plus metal siding.

I’m looking at the fantech Matrix hood #413640, the Tandem Transition dual exterior Hood which seems to be made by a Canadian company but it’s also possibly marketed in the US under Trane, and the life breath by a i r i a dual Hood 99 – 190.

I’m looking at the spec sheets for all of these and it’s unclear to me how much snout each of them has to fit through the wall and insulation.  Life breath won’t even answer questions to end consumers.

I’ve looked at some of the online references and reviews and I’ve been warned that some of these don’t flash well, might have issues with the wall, another unknowns.

Does anybody care to comment on any of these products? At this point I think I’m going to go with the Matrix hood which is the cheapest but it also handles up to 150 CFM, so I’m guessing since it has two 6-in connectors it has the least restriction on airflow.

Thanks,
Jeremy

The fantech unit has a drawing, you should be able to pull a rough length off it using a ruler.

I've only installed the Panasonic dual hood (too small for the IB100) it had a fair bit of length, had to cut it down even. Flashing it with metal siding was no problem, used standard window opening detail.

Connecting to those oval ports with flex pipe is not the easiest especially if space is tight. Connecting the vapor barrier on the insulation is even harder as there is no space between the two ports.
