Cladding suggestion over rigid rockwool

dan22205 | Posted in Green Products and Materials on

Hello.  Looking for a green economical rainscreen cladding application to use over zip sheathing and rigid rockwool.  Looking for a low maintenance solution – found Fiberon, not sure of pricing and looking for comparisons.  Thanks

Following. I’m in a similar position and as of late, have been leaning towards good old fashioned wood lap.

Vinyl would accomplish the same goal, but it just doesn’t FEEL right.

There are very few claddings that are long life with minimal maintenance. Vinyl, EIFS and brick are probably it. Unpainted cedar clapboard is pretty good to if you don't mind the aged look.

The rest, you go with for it more for the look more than the maintenance. Most metal claddings are also pretty durable if you are not in an area with salt spray.

P.S. Be careful with any cladding pretending to look like wood. I have yet to see one that doesn't scream fake from curbside, no amount of reduced maintenance is worth that. Lot of them only look good in pictures.

This is exactly the reason I’ve gone around the world (so to speak) and come back to... wood. Haha.
