Everlast Board & Batten vs Hardie Board

ColbyForester | Posted in General Questions on

I am getting ready to build a house and plan to have Board & Batten siding on the house. I originally planned to use Hardie Board but was not to excited about the upkeep of the product and cost to install and paint. I came across a product called Everlast that can supply the same size Board & Batten siding. I like the product so far and most likely will go with it. My concern is, if it solves all the issues of Hardie Board why is it not more prominent in the market. Only one supplier in my area carried the product. Has anyone had any experience with Everlast siding or have an opinion on it versus the Hardie Board?

Thanks.

I’m not familiar with Everlast, but Hardi offers a prefinished option that comes already painted. Allura has a similar option prefinished with PPG paints, and they offer both 15 and 30 year warranty options on the paint. I don’t think I’d really trust the paint to last with no changes over those long time spans, but any exterior painted surface is going to be subject to some amount of weathering. Fiber cement is pretty much no maintenance as long as you follow the rules: make sure it doesn’t sit in water anywhere, and seal any cut ends.
