Exterior Doors

user-6870177 | Posted in Energy Efficiency and Durability on

Do energy star doors have argon between the panes? We are getting a patio door (inswing) from Waudena/Taylor because they offer a 13″ frame, but they just use air in between the double panes.

Thanks!

    User 687etc.,
First of all, can you tell us your name?

Energy Star requirements for glazing in Energy Star doors are shown below.

Ask the manufacturer whether the double glazing has any low-e coatings, and what the center-of-glass U-factor is. If the glazing is low-e, it might meet Energy Star requirements.

[Later edit: It appears that the Energy Star specification shown in the table below is for the whole door assembly, not the glass alone. Determining the whole door U-factor from the glazing specs alone is impossible. You'll have to trust the documentation provided by the door manufacturer.]
