Filter box airflow direction help

Shawnnixon1 | Posted in General Questions on

Hi I installed a filter box in between my ERV to save on filters, however the orientation that fits is right to left side so air comes in right goes out left, is this ok? Basically air will travel upwards into the merv 13 filter and not downwards like the pic? Does it matter?

    Shawn,

Yes, the filter box can be oriented any way you want it (including vertical), and air flow can be in either direction.

I notice the way mine is oriented now dust is collecting at the bottom of the filter box

Are you still utilizing a filter inside the IB200? What's the filter cost for the AC Infinity filter box you installed? Did you ever look into using custom filters made by Filter King or another custom filter co?

The 14 by 20 by 1 inch filters for the AC Infinity filter box can be purchased most anywhere for about $10. I went with a similar inline filter box by HVAC Quick for filtering air going back to the ERV from within the house. It uses a two inch thick 14 by 20 Merv 8 filter that is under $10. For fresh air coming in I have an insulated filter box that uses two Merv 13 filters that are two inches thick and also 14 by 20, in a v configuration. The Merv 13s are under $20 and should last quite a while. I no longer use the filters that go inside the Broan. They were low Merv and washable so at least they didn't have the same frequent expensive replacements of the Panasonic.

For your fresh air insulated box, which one did you use? Did you get that from HVAC quick as well?
