Intello overlap

eorr | Posted in General Questions on

I asked my builder to put Intello on the interior side of our stud walls using about a 3 inch overlap. I later discovered he overlapped by a couple of feet on most seams.

My question is, will this be an issue with vapor diffusion? Should I cut back extra overlap before I tape (which will be a bit of a pain since it will require pulling staples and taping over holes). Someone from 475 said he was confident it would not be an issue but I’m still a bit leery of leaving it that way.

I would probably trust what 475 says, I think they have a pretty good handle on their products. I think your other alternative would be to reach out to pro clima direct. Perhaps someone with a firmer grip on hydrothermal assemblies and layering of membranes will chime in.

Thanks, it's probably not an issue but the 475 guy said he didn't have any experience with it so I thought I would get a second opinion. I will try to get in touch with Pro Clima as well.

Ian seems pretty knowledgeable, you could ask for him or someone else with more knowledge.

It doesn't matter. In this small section, the permeability will be halved but when you look at whole house overall wall area, barely anything changes.

I would not worry about it, get a good seal and call it a day.
