Roof over Samsung Cold Weather Heat Pumps

adhara108 | Posted in GBA Pro Help on

Good afternoon, we put in two Samsung cold weather heat pumps that now solely heat our 2600 sq ft home in southern NH. These pumps are under our second floor bedroom, and we find them to be disturbing in the winter. We want to build a sound-proofing roof over them, adhering to required standards for space. Can you give any guidance on this, specifically, as long as we make it high enough, is there any reason not to do this?

Thank you!

    adhara108,

Yes you can build them. There are also a number of proprietary enclosures you can just purchase and install.

thank you so much! Do you happen to have any links for the enclosures you're referencing? Thank you again!

      adhara108,

There appear to be a lot to choose from. A Google Image search for "heat pump noise reduction" brings up dozens.

If the goal is to stop the sound hire a mason not a carpenter.

If your place is wood framed and the outdoor units are mounted onto your walls, the noise issue won't be solved with a cover. You have to get them off your walls and onto a ground mount.
