What is this roof construction type?

joenorm | Posted in General Questions on

There is a technique where the building gets framed without overhangs, the WRB gets wrapped continuously around the building, then a roof is built on top of all that.

What is this method called? What are the benefits and drawbacks?

thanks

    joenorm,

It's also often done so the exterior is completely lined with foam. The advantages I can think of are:
    - Continuity of the air-sealing and insulation.
    The disadvantages:
    - It's tricky and time consuming to make, get approval for, and apply overhangs that are structurally sound.

I don’t know the name of that exact technique where the entire roof is framed afterwards, but it is similar in part to Joe Lstiburek’s Perfect Wall, also known as Matt Risinger’s “Monopoly Framing”. The difference in those cases is they are doing conditioned attics and the roof framing is already in place before wrapping the WRB up the walls and the roof at the same time, before overhangs are applied.
