ERV distance from stove

Bill_L | Posted in General Questions on

Hello,
How many horizontal feet/meters from a stove do you think ceiling register ERV returns should be kept?
Does anyone know of any actual tests that produce data useful for suggesting a minimum distance for this?
thanks!
Bill

    Bill,
Do you have a range hood with an exhaust fan ducted to the exterior? If so, will you use it?

In general, you don't want your ERV to pull in any greasy smoke. If you want to put an exhaust grille connected to your ERV in your kitchen ceiling, the best place to locate the grille is "as far from the stove as possible."

Thanks Martin, yes, vented to outside. As its use is subject to human decision, I'm getting advice to have one of the ERV returns in the kitchen. It is a wide-open floor plan, so as far away as possible is a grey area. I'm trying to figure out how far air-borne grease particles generally travel. Any data for that?
    thanks!
