Experience with Dow’s Pro Gasket drywall sealant?

hertzr | Posted in General Questions on

Hello,

Does anyone have experience with Dow’s Pro Gasket squirt-on drywall gasket? If so, how do you like it? Does it make a good seal and hold up well?

Am planning on gutting my entire second floor this summer. This looks like an interesting drywall gasket option. Thanks!

I did not know it existed. Maybe under exterior sheathing in addition to tape.
Maybe not if you have to wait for it to cure.

    HI Richard -

I also have not used this material. But although I am sure you know this, when you do employ the airtight drywall approach (ADA) make sure you type this in the GBA search to see all the great articles and video GBA has on this topic.

All I know is that you need to use their gun with it too. It doesn't work in your standard foam dispensing gun for some reason.
I'm also curious to see what people's real world experience with this is as I'm considering it for my build.

I have just done my new home with this material. Like Andy mentioned above you use the special blue gun as the material is water based. My place is 2300 sf on main level and 1500 sf lower level (basement). Took 6 cans to do all main level top plates, and around all window and door openings (both levels). I did not bother doing the bottom plates as they were already caulked to the subfloor and the stud cavities had OC foam. It is pretty easy to do and for $180 all in, I have some peace of mind that I will be sealed against air communication with the attic. When I was putting it on, I got a pretty good view of all the irregularities in the top plates and the top plate to stud connections. There definitely is air communication possible. I did it several days before the drywall was applied, the material adheres to the wood very well and seemed like it would stay put. I didn't hear any complaints from the drywall crew.
