Which Electric Panel Heater for an Off Grid Bathroom?

rockies63 | Posted in General Questions on

So after installing a single mini split head for a tiny off grid cabin, the only other closed off room (the bathroom) is a little cool. The cabin is very air-tight and well insulated and the room itself measures 90 sq’ so I’m planning on installing an electric wall heater but need one that has low output and uses very little electricity and is suitable for a humid environment like a bathroom.

I was thinking about the Amaze 250 watt heater, but is there anything better? Apparently there is a “splash-proof” version as well.

When you say better, is there a particular feature that is of concern.

These units are pretty straight forward as far as I know so not much difference to look for.

I've read a few reviews that they give off a bad smell, despite letting them off-gas for days.

I'm looking at putting a little electric heat in my unfinished 100 year-old basement where I'm removing my oil boiler (for winter days in climate zone 7). Does anyone know what would be better - a convection heater or an infrared heater?

Do you know if the similar products by Envy also are reported to give off a bad smell?

Infrared heaters warm objects (and people), not air. I think you'll get better results from a convection heater that warms the air in the space.

I have an Envi heater in my pantry and it does a good job, no noticeable odors. I know others like Convectair convection heaters. The key seems to be using natural convection, without a fan, to keep energy usage low, though I'd still have reservations about using them off-grid.
