Prodex "insulation" is a type of foil-faced bubble wrap. Distributors and marketers of Prodex products are often guilty of exaggerated R-value claims. Most of these products have a limited R-value ranging from R-1 to R-3. As long as you realize that you are getting a very low R-value, you can use the product if you want.

It's hard to add R-value to a garage door. In general, garage doors are so leaky that the best approach to improving a garage door is to focus on air sealing (by improving the weatherstripping) rather than trying to add R-value. For more information, see Energy-Efficient Garage Doors.
