Mini Split – Heating/Cooling Unit

J_SALS12 | Posted in GBA Pro Help on

I’m looking to install a mini split into a Shed-Cabin and unsure of size, brand, etc to us for the project.

I have small recessed electric heaters in the bedrooms/bathroom, and would be looking for the mini split to heat/cool the main living area (kitchen/living room). The size of the area is roughly 1000 sqft, and has 13′ ceilings. Spray foam insulation on all outer walls, and blown in for the ceilings. I’m also installing a small wood stove.

I’ve been quoted a 36000 BTU 3 ton unit, but feel I can get by with something smaller. Looking for quality unit, but it is a cabin so something cost effective and efficient is preferred.

Every building is different, there's no way to know from the dimensions how much heating and cooling a building needs.

Since you have existing electric heaters, the most accurate way would be to measure how much electricity they use in cold weather.
